The Dashas are used to predict life events. In my life, I've experienced life events panning out how I anticipated using the Dashas, whether those life events were big or small, the accuracy with which the Dashas could predict life events was one of the main things that attracted me towards Vedic astrology. The Dashas can predict life events, what kind of life events? Time of marriage, rise in one's career, rise in income, name and fame, an opportunity for higher education, foreign travel or an end of a difficult time.
Now before you go to the Dashas my suggestion is you first read your birth chart, and understand what your birth chart is suggesting, there are many articles on this blog, which would help you understand what planetary positions mean in your birth chart, what that would tell you is the potential you hold or your life holds and the direction you might take for example which career path you might end up taking and what kind of a person you might end up spending your life with but when are you going to realize this potential, when are important life events likely to unfold that would be determined by the Dashas
On Farfaraway's main page, if you click the right arrow button next to your birth chart then you'll eventually reach the Dasha table, in which you'll see four columns and the fourth column is for the end date, think of this table as a book on your life, the first column, that is the Mahadasha think of this as a chapter in your life, in the book of our life we'd have multiple chapters and the Mahadashas would last anywhere between 6 to 20 years, the second column is the most important one, this is the Antardasha think of this as a story unfolding within a chapter like you were studying but you also got married or you were working and you got to travel, so the main events which we are very excited about in our life such as hike in income, foreign travel, or marriage I think such events have to agree with the Antardasha planet so you must always know which Antardasha you are currently going through and which Antardasha you're about to enter, this is one of the first few things I notice in a chart whilst I'm reading a birth chart, the third column is the Pratyantardasha, think of this as a subplot for example during a promising Antardasha you were promoted but how you experience that position of authority would be determined by which Pratyantardasha were you going through for example the Antardasha is of Sun and the Pratyantardasha is of Saturn, due to Sun's promising position in your chart you found yourself in a position of authority perhaps under Saturn's Pratyantardasha you'd find your authority questioned. So the Mahadasha is the main chapter, the Antardashas are important stories of our life, and the Pratyantardashas are subplots.
Now what to expect under the Dashas of different planets, see planets are going to rule our life at different times and that would be determined by the position of Moon at the time of your birth that calculation you'd find in this article, how have I arrived at these planetary combinations ruling your life at certain times that calculation has been explained in that article, the purpose of this article is what to expect when you are under the Dasha of a particular combination of planets, my understanding of that has come from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra - Volume II and I'd like to quote from that book, the natural characteristics of the Dasha planet, here when I'm using the word "Dasha planet", I'm referring to either the Mahadasha planet, or the Antardasha planet, or the Pratyantardasha planet, I've mentioned earlier that the Antardasha planet is the most important one, the natural characteristics of the Dasha planet cause general effects, I'll give you an example if a person is going through the Antardasha of Jupiter, it's very likely the person might encounter learning opportunities that's Jupiter's natural characteristic, it presents learning opportunities in our life, I myself have done an MBA during Jupiter's Antardasha if you go further, distinctive effects are realized by their placements now whilst Jupiter might present learning opportunities where Jupiter is placed in your chart and which houses is it ruling that would determine distinctive effects, for example if Jupiter is in the 12th house there's a possibility you might find an opportunity to go abroad for higher studies, I'm generalizing but I'm trying to explain how you can determine what might unfold in your life more specifically, let's look at a few more examples if you are under the Antardasha for example of Sun you might encounter an opportunity to occupy a position of power, with Venus comes name and fame and festivity at home including marriage you yourself could get married, under Saturn's Antardasha, the person might find oneself going through some challenges but may also find oneself in a position of high responsibility or in public service, with Mercury comes learning, skills-driven education, and businesses, you'd find this interesting I started Farfaraway whilst I was under Mercury's Antardasha, with Moon comes good fortune if Moon is well placed happiness and peace of mind in general, with Mars comes the tenacity to face difficult challenges so physical strength and execution of plans that is what you might encounter under Mars's Dasha, under Rahu you might get to experience foreign things and that might be through travel or meeting people who are different from you and you may also find yourself under unusual circumstances. Under Ketu, the probability is that you'd find yourself in foreign circumstances which are driven by your desire to leave things behind that's something you might encounter under Ketu's Antardasha and with that you may also be very spiritually inclined those are the general effects.
Now I'm going to share distinctive effects the Dasha planets can bring into our life, there are certain planets which generally bring positive results or favorable events they are Jupiter, Venus and to some extent Moon, the other planets that can present challenges in our lives are Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu and to some extent Sun and Mercury gives mixed results, so just by this you can assess okay! If I'm going through Jupiter's Antardasha, I'm likely to encounter opportunities or if I'm going through Venus' Antardasha, I'm likely to encounter an opportunity to make money or if I'm going through the Antardasha of Saturn things might slow down so just my understanding the generic nature of planets, you can broadly begin to assess what might unfold in your life, for more distinctive effects you must study the exact position of the Dasha planet in your chart, first thing you must identify is the Nakshatra and the sign the Dasha planet is occupying in your chart, then look at Dasha planet's position (house), then the house(s) the Dasha planet is ruling, and the house(s) the Dasha planet is aspecting, and then study its position in the Navamsa (D-9 chart) and the Dasamsa (D-10 chart) so you combine your findings from the Navamsa and the Dasamsa and try to analyze what might unfold, this is the methodology that I follow.
If the Antardasha is of Mars, Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu and they are placed in the 6th, 8th or the 12th house then that might lead to difficult time for you, the second thing you must analyze is the relationship between the house(s) the Dasha planet is ruling and the house it's occupying if the relationship is 6, 8, or 12 there's a high possibility during its Dasha you're likely to encounter some challenges what I mean by that is if let's say the seventh house ruler is Jupiter and it's placed in the 12th house, so from the seventh house the twelfth house is six places away, it's likely during Jupiter's Antardasha, the person might face some challenges related to the seventh house maybe the couple have to separate temporarily as one of them has to go abroad for work so some challenges might be there, which are linked to the 7th house and the 12th house that's how you analyze it, thirdly you must study the relationship between the Mahadasha planet and the Antardasha planet, if you're going through the Mahadasha of Sun and the Antardasha of Saturn it's very likely you're going to face some challenges particularly from authority figures given the difficult relationship Sun and Saturn share with one another this is where you must understand the basics of astrology, the fourth thing you can do is to see the relationship between the position of the Mahadasha planet (house position) and the house position of the Antardasha planet for example under Sun and Saturn's Dasha if Sun is placed in the 10th house and Saturn is placed in the 3rd house it's likely this is going to be a difficult time firstly as Sun and Saturn share a difficult relationship and secondly Saturn is placed six places away from Sun. Hopefully, these combinations would help you identify an upcoming difficult Dasha and plan life accordingly.
So now I'm going to share for different planets favorable and unfavorable positions, I'm going to be talking about certain Nakshatras and Signs where they are favorable and then I'm going to be listing favorable and unfavorable events associated with those planets so you can simply study okay!
