Bharani

Lord Yama has sovereignty over Bharani. He is the son of Sun and the grandson of Goddess Aditi. Lord Shani (Saturn) and Ashwini Kumaras are his brothers. He was the first mortal to ascend to the heavens and attain immortality. He has since shown the path to other mortals and so he’s rightly known as the king of ancestors. He’s there to receive the recently deceased, who is brought to Yamalok (his palace). He, along with Chitragupta (karmic accountant), then decides the fate of the soul whether the soul would ascend to the heavens or descend to the hells. He’s known to carry a fetter made of iron to shackle the souls who have lived a life full of sins. Once a soul reaps the rewards of good karma (stay in heaven) or pays for the bad karma (served time in hell), the soul is reborn on Earth. Where would this new birth take place, who would be native’s parents, and what would be the native’s destiny is decided by Lord Yama. Krttika

Lord Savitar has sovereignty over Hasta. The Gayatri mantra, the most sacred mantra, is dedicated to him. The mantra is “Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ. Tat savitur varenyaṃ. Bhargo devasya dhīmahi. Dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt” which translates to “we choose the Supreme Light of the divine Sun (Lord Savitar); we aspire that it may impel our minds”. Here’s another translation: “May we attain that excellent glory of Savitar the god: So may he stimulate our prayers”. Chitra

Lord Tvastar has sovereignty over Chitra. He designs, shapes, and colors all objects on earth and the heavens. He’s the God behind the design of a leaf to the design of a thunderbolt, a mighty weapon having a thousand edges, used by Lord Indra. In the story of Mahabharata, he fashioned the city of Indraprastha for the Pandavas. He’s rightly known as Vishvakarman (maker of all things) and the celestial architect. Lord Tvastar uses an iron Parasu (an axe) to sculpt beautiful objects with unmatched accuracy. Lord Mitra has sovereignty over Anuradha. He is truthful, empathetic, pure, noble, generous, selfless, has a spotless reputation, and protects the rights of others especially the underdog. He believes in non-violence, non-injury to anyone, and to treat others as one would like to be treated. Words such as hostility, animosity, and jealousy have no place for Lord Mitra. Jyestha

Lord Indra has sovereignty over Jyestha. He is powerful, bold, strong, fearless, mighty, known to possess 1000 powers, and is invincible. He is best known for slaying the demon Vrtra using his preferred weapon, a thunderbolt (Vajra). He defeated many other demons brutally, which is symbolic of his “no-mercy” policy on the battlefield. For such victories, he’s given the title of the King of the heaven and the King of the Gods. He commands respect, holds supreme status, and is well-renowned for his heroics. Mula

Goddess Nirrti has sovereignty over Mula. She is the Goddess of destruction. She’s the daughter of Himsa (Violence) and Adharma (unrighteousness). She has Bhaya (fear), Naraka (hell), Maya (illusion), and Vedana (torture) as her children. Destruction is first step towards creation and evolution and she’s assigned this sacred job. She’s the most feared. She uproots, disfigures, and mutilates everything in her path. Sometimes such an extreme force is necessary to wake us up. Purva ashadha

Goddess Apah has sovereignty over Purva Ashadha. She is the Goddess of water. In the beginning, the Universe was nothing but a sea of water. The creator of all creatures (Prajapati ) was born from this cosmic sea. Water has a purifying effect. It washes away our sins not literally but through self-realization, introspection, austerity, penance, and that is why some rivers are considered holy, particularly in India. Dhanistha

The Vasus have sovereignty over Dhanistha. Earth (Dhara), water (Apah), fire (Anala/Agni), wind (Anila/Vayu), sky (Prabhasha/Akasha), Sun at day-break (Pratyusha), Soma (Moon), and the fixed star (Dhruva) are the Vasus. Agni is their leader. They fashioned the Earth for the humans. Vasu translates to an abundance of riches and therefore the Vasus bless the native with imperishable prosperity, earthly treasures, and worldwide fame. Purva Bhadrapada

Lord Aja Ekapad has sovereignty over Purva Bhadrapada. He is one of the 11 rudras. The rudras are the forces of the atmosphere, which is between the heavens and the Earth. Lord Aja Ekapad is compared to Lord Rudra (vedic form of Lord Shiva) himself, which symbolizes Lord Aja Ekapad’s power and influence. He’s known to be 'the one-legged unborn one' or 'the one-legged goat'. Such depictions symbolize a single bolt of lightning (an unborn fire) that turns into fire on striking the earth. Therefore, he is the storm god, possessing the power of lightning or is the lightning itself – unborn fire.
