Purva ashadha is the 20th Nakshatra occupying 13 degrees 20 minutes Sagittarius to 26 degrees 40 minutes Sagittarius. Purva ashadha is ruled by Venus. Here's what it represents:
Goddess Apah is the Goddess of water. In the beginning, the Universe was nothing but a sea of water. The creator of all creatures (Prajapati) was born from this cosmic sea. Water has a purifying effect. It washes away our sins not literally but through self-realization, introspection, austerity, penance, and that is why some rivers are considered holy, particularly in India. Goddess Saraswati oversees this Nakshatra as she is the mother of all rivers. She is the fountainhead of all faculties (mental & spiritual). By her grace, our intellect is purified and we merge with the ultimate truth. She has magical healing powers too. Therefore, the waters cure all diseases, they are considered to be the most skillful of physicians. They also calm flared emotions, anger, and end jealousy. The waters nourish everyone and give us food, and energy.
An elephant’s tusk is the main symbol of this nakshatra. It signifies permanent victory and invincibility. Therefore, the native would be extremely confident, exuberant, undaunted by failure, would aim for the sky, and would set goals beyond reach. Waters from wells, rivers, ponds, and lakes ultimately merge into the ocean, which is symbolic of native’s single-minded focus to go after the biggest desire in life (materialistic or spiritual). The native would possess a “just-do-it” attitude and would inspire one and all. Such ambition, however, could result in armed conflicts, wars, business takeovers, or risky adventures especially since this Nakshatra is classified as Ugra (fierce).
A winnowing basket is another symbol of this nakshatra. It is used to separate the wheat from the chaff, which is symbolic of the native’s talent in the field of research, investigation, or creation. Such fields require filtering through a myriad of information, ideas, concepts before reaching the end goal. The native may also be interested in water sports, being a mid-wife (water births), a motivations speaker, business strategist, marine biologist, oceanographer, involved with the shipping industry, merchant navy, or anything to do with the oceans.
