The birth chart
The birth chart is the picture of the sky from your place of birth at the time you were born. The birth chart is analyzed in two ways. The first one is based on the rising sign – the constellation (sign) rising in the east at the time of your birth and that goes into the first house, the next sign goes into the second house and so on. The second one is based on the sign of the Moon and that goes into the first house, the next sign goes into the second house and so on.
-
The houses
The 4th, 9th, and 12th are the most relevant houses for travel. The 9th house represents long distance travel, the 12th house represents foreign settlement, and the 4th house represents home, and is important since planets taking you away from home bring travel.
-
The lords
In your birth chart, every house has a sign, and these signs are ruled by planets, and they are called lords. For example, if your 12th house is in the sign of Leo, then Sun rules your 12th house. Similarly, if your 12th house is in the sign of Cancer then Moon rules it. The lords of the 4th, 9th, and 12th houses are taken into the calculations.
-
The planets
Jupiter, Rahu, and Ketu are the most important planets. In the present context, Jupiter brings travel, and both Rahu and Ketu bring unplanned travel. Besides them, planets forming a conjunction with Moon are also taken into the calculations.
-
The time periods
The time periods are based on an age-old Vedic technique called Vimshottari Dashas. Our life span is divided into time periods that are governed by some planets. E.g. if a time period between Aug - Oct 2017 is governed by Moon, Venus, and Jupiter then we only take these three planets into the calculations and NOT all nine of them. Also, if these planets form a relationship with the 4th, 9th, or the 12th house then it strongly indicates travel.
-
The transits
Vimshottari Dashas (Planetary time periods) cannot alone determine the timing of travel – it has to be supported by transits. The transits are the position of planets, just like the birth chart, but not based on the birth date, but based on the dates we want to check. In the above example if we have to check the dates between Aug - Oct 2017, then we will check the transits of Moon, Venus, and Jupiter. If these planets fall into the 4th, 9th, or the 12th house then it strongly indicates travel.
-
Other factors
The D9 chart is based on the birth chart where each sign is broken into 9 parts. Why? Because a sign is not the same across the entire 30 degrees it holds in the sky e.g. for the early degree, Aries acts like Aries but for the late degrees, it acts like Sagittarius. Similarly, D4 is based on the birth chart where each sign is broken into 4 parts. Both the D9 and the D4 chart holds special relevance to travel. So the planets and lords of the 4th,9th, and the 12th houses in these charts are taken into calculations.
-
The interactions
There are 4 different kinds of interactions. Planets in houses – does any planet make a relationship with the 4th, 9th, or the 12th house either directly or through an aspect (second homes for planets). Lords in transit – does the lord of the 4th, 9th, or the 12th house in the birth chart form a relationship with these houses in the transit. Planets and Lords – does any planet form an aspect or a conjunction with the lords. Planets and planets – does any planet form an aspect or a conjunction with planets that signify travel such as Jupiter, Rahu, and Ketu.
-
The maths
Standard principles of statistics are used to predict the probability of travel. Points are assigned to each interaction in the birth chart based on planetary time periods, and to interactions in the transits. The final points are normalized to ensure consistency in data.

Voila
You have a list of time periods along with the probability of travel. Of course! the time periods with high chances has a better chance of you travelling. Wishing you a very happy and safe trip :)
